NCKU Engineering Science
Founded in 1965, the Department of engineering science first offered an Undergraduate degree program only. In 1979, the Master program was established, and the Doctoral program in 1993.In 1999, the EMBA program was stablished. The leading idea for the establishment of the Department and Graduate School of Engineering Science is to meet the nation's progressive demand for creative engineers with system engineering technology and system analysis techniques. Each year the department admits about 65 undergraduates, 82 Students to the master program and 22 students to the Doctoral program. Currently we have 275 Undergraduates, 218 students in the M.S. and Ph.D. program, 51 students in the EMBA program. More than 2800 ES alumni have made valuable contributions to each field around the world.
Specialty of Engineering Science
(1) Computer Engineering
Emphasizing Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence and Real-Time Computing System, especially the application of computer science in the other fields of engineering.
(2) Control Engineering
Emphasizing Analysis & Design of Control System and Automation ,including Control System Theory Analysis and Design of Electronics Circuits, in order to combine with the principles of Applied Mechanics for Structure Design and to integrate with Computing Techniques for System Automation.
(3) Applied Mechanics
Applied Mechanics is the principal engineering for Analysis and Design of Structures. In Applied Mechanics, we emphasize the basic training in Solid Mechanics and Thermo-Fluid Mechanics. Simulation, computation and automation of structural systems can then be accomplished by integrating with Computer and Control Engineering.
(4) System Engineering
The undergraduate program is designed for students whose major interest in Computer Engineering, Control Engineering and Applied Mechanics. It also gives the student the freedom to tailor the program according to the student's individual needs, including
(1) the Real-Time Computing System
(2) the Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering
(3) the Computation And Simulation
(4) the Thermo-Fluid Engineering and Solid Mechanics
(5) the Control system
(6) the Automation.
